Over 100 responses to Private Parking Consultation
A consultation into the regulation of private parking has received over 100 responses since opening to the public on the 8th of December.
Murdo hopes that hundreds more will get in touch to give their thoughts on cracking down on rogue parkers over the next three months.
The proposal to regulate the private parking industry has gained widespread support from motorists who currently feel under siege from companies who use threatening tactics to elicit payment.
Murdo’s Private Members Bill aims to clean up the industry by introducing five basic controls.
The introduction of a fully independent appeals service in Scotland
Clearer signage in car parks
Removal of misleading terms on fines
Introduction of Keeper Liability to mirror England and Wales
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said;
“To have over 100 responses already, underlines the significant public interest in seeing rogue parking companies regulated.
“The majority of responses have come from individuals rather than trade bodies or professional organisations and I look forward to reading the thoughts of both sides of the divide.
“However, I would also encourage more motorists to come forward with their thoughts and opinions. I have been happy to see various online parking forums discuss the proposal and I would encourage them to put this through official channels.
“Parkers in Perth have been badly hit by unfair penalty notices and I hope that 2018 is the year that we finally say goodbye to shoddy parking regulations.”
