In response to the Perth and Kinross Council Budget, Murdo Fraser MSP has commented:
“The SNP has made balancing the books almost impossible for Local Authorities, but despite a real terms funding cut of 2.5% the Conservatives in Perth and Kinross have presented a budget with proper ambition.
“Schools will see funding protected by £5 million, roads and infrastructure will get additional spending and £1.25 million will be invested in growing the economy. If only the SNP at Holyrood had shown this type of vision in their own budget.
“The Conservatives have made it a priority to support rural parts of the region and reinstating funding for Pitlochry Festival Theatre will be warmly welcomed by everyone across Highland Perthshire. We understand rural Perth and Kinross and believe that growing the economy is the best way to support public services in the long run.
“This is what you get with a Conservative-led council, investment in schools and infrastructure, long-term economic vision and more opportunities for rural communities.
“It was also significant that the SNP opposition on the Council, despite the posturing of some local SNP politicians, did not oppose the introduction of a garden waste uplift charge. Had this been dropped, it would have meant substantial cuts being made elsewhere.”
