Parliamentary Praise for record beating Duncan Scott

Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP, Murdo Fraser, has used a parliamentary motion to call on fellow MSPs to back Scotland’s Commonwealth star Duncan Scott.

Scott took home swimming’s blue riband event in the 100m freestyle and also won an additional five medals to become Scotland’s most decorated athlete at a single Commonwealth Games.

Duncan was educated at Perthshire’s Strathallan School, attending on an athletic scholarship, and it was here where he honed his considerable talents in the pool.

In winning the 100m freestyle Duncan fought off competition from Olympic Champion Kyle Chalmers and South African pool legend, Chad Le Clos.

Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said;

“Like people across the country I have marvelled at Duncan’s achievements in the pool and I would call on fellow MSPs to lend their congratulations to Scotland’s latest sporting superstar.

“The staff and coaches at Strathallan played a significant role in Duncan’s development and I am sure that they are just as delighted at his achievements.

“This has been Scotland’s most successful ‘away’ games and the legacy from the 2014 games has been carried forward for Scotland’s elite athletes.

“However, it’s important that we capitalise on success at these games to encourage more people to not only follow in Duncan’s wake but to also lead healthier lifestyles.”
