Praise for Perth and Kinross’s “model” approach to Child Protection

A care inspectorate report has rubber stamped Perth and Kinross Council’s approach to child protection and has labelled it an exemplary model which could be used around the country.

Mid-Scotland and Fife MSPs, Murdo Fraser and Liz Smith, have welcomed the findings and believe that the report highlights good management in place at the local authority.

The joint report made a particular highlight of the care received by children in residential homes which stated that looked after children were “thriving”.

In further praise the report stated that the principles of Getting it Right for Every Child were well understood and firmly embedded in practice across the region.

Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said;

“This glowing assessment of the practices employed at Perth and Kinross Council is just reward for the hard work being done at residential homes throughout the region.

“Ensuring that children in residential homes are able to have the same opportunities and life chances as every other child is incredibly important and that is clearly being achieved in Perth and Kinross.

“I would encourage the Scottish Government to consult with officials at Perth and Kinross council in order to understand what they are doing right and how other local authorities can do likewise.”

“The conclusions of this report highlight all the good things that are happening in Perth and Kinross when it comes to child protection and providing an environment in which all young people can thrive.

“I would like to congratulate the workforce and senior management for not only their dedication and enthusiasm but for their innovative thinking when it comes to delivering results.

“Getting it right for every child is incredibly important and there is no higher commendation than being labelled a model for others to follow.”
