Scottish householders still slow to switch energy supplier

Scottish customers are amongst the least likely to switch energy suppliers according to a Which? survey and Murdo Fraser MSP is calling on Mid-Scotland and Fife residents to buck the trend and find the best deal for them.

According to the survey, only 53% of bill payers were active switchers compared to 60% in Yorkshire. Only customers in London were less likely to shop around for the best deal.

These figures will come as a surprise to many following recent high profile television and radio campaigns aimed at encouraging householders to switch supplier.

The survey was carried out last September and over 8,397 energy customers responded.

Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said;

“Switching supplier and shopping around for the best deal is still the best way to reduce your energy bill and it has never been easier to do so.

“Too many energy customers are being taken for a ride and it’s important that everyone is aware of the best deal for them. Moving from the ‘Big 6’ to smaller suppliers can result in not only cheaper tariffs but better customer service.

“Ending fuel poverty is a huge priority and the UK Government is committed to ensuring no-one overpays for their energy and I look forward to welcoming the planned cap on prices.

“We have just experienced one of the coldest and longest winters on record and heating bills have soared as a result, I would therefore encourage people across the region to plan ahead for the coming year to ensure that you are on the best possible deal.”
