Murdo meets with Scone Award Winners
Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP, Murdo Fraser, has met with the Scone and District 50-plus group today following their recent win at the Age Scotland Awards.
The group were recently recognised for their work with older residents by scooping the Age Scotland Inspiration Award in March.
Following that victory Murdo put a motion before parliament praising the achievement and has now met with the group to meet them in person.
The Scone and District 50-plus group provide a range of activities for people in the area including, singing, gardening, book club, arts, photography and away days.
Public health officials are growing increasingly concerned by the negative psychological impact of loneliness and groups like this are essential in bringing older people together.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said;
“It was great to meet with the group today to learn more about what they do in the local community.
“Loneliness is a growing public health concern and it is important that elderly residents have a support network and groups like this are essential in providing this.
“Winning the Age Scotland Inspiration Award is a tremendous achievement for the group and I was impressed by their vision when I met with them today.
“I would encourage anyone in the area who is over 50 and is looking to get more involved in their local community to make it along and get involved with the group.”
