Murdo welcomes “transformational” funding for Perth High School, Blairgowrie Rec Centre and Rattray

Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP, Murdo Fraser, has welcomed funding from Perth and Kinross Council to deliver a new Perth High School, build a £13 million recreation centre in Blairgowrie and construct a £500k 3G pitch in Rattray.

The funding follows the passing of the Council’s capital budget yesterday which outlined spending priorities for the year ahead.

Murdo believes the funding will be transformational and has praised the council for listening to the community in Rattray who have long-campaigned for new sports pitches.

Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said;

“Funding for a new Perth High School will be warmly welcomed by parents, teachers and pupils. It has been clear for a long time that the existing building is no longer fir for purpose, and it is great to see the Council green light what will be a transformational project.

“Investing in education was a key priority in yesterday’s budget but it was also worth noting that despite the bluster from senior SNP politicians their Council group did not propose any additional funding for a new Pitlochry Primary school. However, thanks to the Conservative-led administration, the current site will benefit from a new £2.8 million fund to upgrade its current facilities.

“It was also welcome to see significant investment in the new Blairgowrie recreation centre which will provide the community with a top-class sporting and leisure facility. People in Rattray will be delighted to see that their calls for a new 3G sports pitch were answered. Ensuring that children and adults have a good quality space to play football and other sports will be vital in encouraging more people to lead active lives.

“Despite the challenging financial settlement handed down to local Councils from the SNP in Edinburgh, yesterday’s budget delivered real investment for people and places across the region and this should be welcomed locally.”
