Murdo visits Carse of Gowrie “Mens’ Shed”

Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP, Murdo Fraser, has visited the Carse of Gowrie “Mens’ Shed” alongside local councillor Angus Forbes.

The shed is located outside of Invergowrie and was set up in 2017 with the aim of providing a space for men of all ages to work on traditional crafts like woodwork and joinery.

Men’s Sheds are spreading across the country with the aim of combatting isolation and loneliness by providing a space for men to meet people and improve their skills.

During Murdo’s visit to the shed he met with key officials behind the project and was able to try his hand at some of the crafts on offer whilst hearing some of the inspiring stores from members of the shed.

Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said;

“It was great to meet with those involved in setting up the Carse of Gowrie Mens’ Shed which has been in operation for over a year now.

“Mens’ Sheds are proving extremely popular and new locations are popping up across the country.

“These sheds are helping fight social isolation for men of all ages, but particularly those in later life, whilst also providing a space to learn new skills and traditional crafts.

“I hope that the Carse of Gowrie shed can continue to grow and I would encourage local residents to get in touch to find out how they can get involved.”

Commenting Cllr Angus Forbes said;

“I was delighted to take in a tour of Carse of Gowrie Mens’ Shed as they do wonderful work for a variety of people. I was particularly interested in the planters they are making for Errol Primary School and the help they have offered to the new play park being built in Invergowrie.”
