Murdo wants assurances following news of cancelled SSE merger
Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP, Murdo Fraser, has called on bosses of the Perth-based utilities giant to offer assurances to their Perth workforce following news that SSE will no longer merge with Npower.
SSE has blamed changing energy market conditions, the energy price cap and the performance of both businesses as factors in ditching the deal.
The deal had previously been cleared by the competition watch-dog but there had been concerns that a merged company would result in a smaller workforce in Perth.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“The cancellation of this merger will undoubtedly affect SSE but hopefully jobs that were under threat as a result of this merger are now secure.
“I would call on SSE bosses to offer their workforce fresh assurances about the long-term future of the business in the Fair City.
“The UK Government is committed to reducing the price of energy for all and the energy price cap is good news for consumers.
“Retaining choice in the energy market is key to ensuring competition and I would hope that SSE can move on from this and continue to be successful.”
