Murdo Fraser told that new care and treatment hub will be created at Pitlochry Community Hospital
Murdo Fraser MSP has been told that a new care and treatment hub is due to open at Pitlochry Community Hospital in October.
The announcement came to light when the Scottish Conservative politician, who represents the Mid Scotland and Fife region, discussed the matter with Health Secretary Jeane Freeman at the Scottish Parliament earlier this week, following written correspondence between them regarding the facility’s minor injury and illness unit (MIIU).
The Health Secretary told Mr Fraser that the new care and treatment hub will bring medical services such as phlebotomy, wound care, post-operative wound care management and suture and ulcer care together, with the aim being to increase access to appointments for patients.
The Perth and Kinross Health and Social Care Partnership had previously told Mr Fraser that the MIIU at Pitlochry Community Hospital will be re-designed into a care and treatment hub.
Commenting, Mr Fraser said: “There is a lot of interest among residents living in Pitlochry and Highland Perthshire about what is being proposed with Pitlochry Community Hospital.
“I had asked the Health Secretary how the provision of a care and treatment hub at Pitlochry Community Hospital will improve healthcare for Highland Perthshire residents and she gave a really helpful and detailed answer.”
He continued: “I had been concerned at the restricted hours of the MIIU at the hospital and was pleased when it was announced that the facility would open its doors at weekends from April. The Perth and Kinross Health and Social Care Partnership then confirmed that the unit would be re-designed into a care and treatment hub, which is why I asked the Health Secretary for more detail.
“I also asked the Health Secretary how the local community will be involved in designing the services that will be available at the new hub. She told me she understood the original thinking and design of the hub came from feedback from patients but promised to clarify this with me.
“I welcome the commitment to public engagement, and look forward to hearing more details as they emerge.”
