Murdo Fraser says hundreds of Fife businesses feel 'abandoned' due to grant applications not
Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP Murdo Fraser says hundreds of businesses in Fife have been left abandoned by the grants scheme as they are still waiting on vital funding support.
Mr Fraser, who represents the Mid Scotland and Fife region, was reacting after the latest statistics released showed that 594 businesses in Fife are still waiting for their grant application to be processed.
With the economic effects of the Covid-19 pandemic set to be fully felt in the coming months, Mr Fraser says further urgent work is needed to ensure that those businesses who need support are able to receive grant funding.
Commenting, Mr Fraser said: “Week after week, we have seen a real lack of progress on ensuring businesses in Fife receive vital grant funding.
“We are now almost three months into lockdown measures and it is staggering that over 16,000 businesses across Scotland are still waiting on funding support, including 594 in Fife.
“Many businesses now feel abandoned by this process set out by the Scottish Government and as we continue to ease lockdown measures, there is an even greater need to ensure our businesses have the funding they need.”
He continued: “This could really be the difference between survival or not for many of our loved premises and it is clear the SNP do not have the vision or drive to get that funding to those businesses desperate for support.
“While I accept that these figures do include applications that have been rejected, it is still not good enough that so many businesses have been able to access support after so many weeks of having to remain closed.”
