Murdo Fraser MSP says historic Saints cup win will provide a 'great boost' for Perth and Kinross
Murdo Fraser MSP has described St Johnstone’s Betfred (League) Cup win as providing a “great boost” for the whole of Perth and Kinross.
The Scottish Conservative politician, who represents the Mid Scotland and Fife region, was reacting to Saints beating Livingston at Hampden Park on Sunday to lift the cup – their second major national trophy win in their 137-year history.
Commenting, Mr Fraser said: “It was great to see St Johnstone winning the Betfred Cup – it will provide a great boost for the city and the whole of Perth and Kinross, especially during these very difficult times.
“The only downside is no fans could be there in the stadium to see them lift the League Cup due to the Covid restrictions. However, I read that club manager, Callum Davidson, has underlined how important it is for St Johnstone to hold an event in the summer, when most restrictions may have been lifted, to celebrate the historic win with supporters.
“This was the first time the club had ever won the League Cup, so it would be great for all concerned if we have progressed enough with the vaccination programme to allow this to happen.”
Mr Fraser continued: “I have lodged a Motion at the Scottish Parliament asking fellow MSPs to congratulate St Johnstone on winning the League Cup as it was such a notable and historic success for the club.”
